The world's smallest city. Århus, the second largest city in Denmark, is a cultural centre with an abundance of museums and galleries. The university city of Århus is also the home of 6 theatres, a concert hall and a large congress centre. Every year in July there is a great Jazz Festival and in September "Århus Festival Week" - one of Scandinavia's greatest cultural events.
Close to the youth hostel
DANHOSTEL Århus situated in the middle of the wood Riis Skov. From the highest slope you have a beautiful view of Århus bay. The woods have a good path system where you can follow two different paths. At the mouth of the woods you find a small ice cream stand.
From the youth hostel you only have few meters to the beach Den Permanente which is an old fashion bath and one of the most popular beached in the city.

Free city bikes
From April until November you can use any one of the 450 city bikes in Århus free of charge 24 hours a day. You can find them dotted around the city in the 57 specially allocated bicycle stands.
Each bicycle has a coin slot (just like shopping trolleys in Danish supermarkets). Insert a 20-kroner coin in the slot and press the “key” into the other slot to unlock the lock and release the bike from the bicycle stand. You get your 20-kroner piece back again when you press the “key” back into the slot at any bicycle stand.
